Your Masterclass Instructor

Tim Pare has a background in charity leadership with a specific focus on fundraising and strategy. He co-founded Tea Leaf Trust 17 years ago, which is still going strong in the tea estates of Sri Lanka. Tim also founded First Give in 2014 that runs a philanthropy programme in over 180 secondary schools in England and Wales. From 2019 - 2023 he led and co-led The Funding Network New Zealand, a small national charity focused on building the crowdfunding capacity of small charities, and inspiring generosity. Across his career Tim has raised over $6 million and has run annual crowdfunding campaigns for the last decade.

What charities are saying

Franklin Family Support Services

Participant in Generosity Generator training programme, 2023

“The Generosity Generator led me to create a comprehensive campaign that let us consider the resources our organisation and community have and how we could leverage these to make our campaign successful. We formed so many positive relationships with businesses in our area and we were able to use the provided templates and resources to ensure we were professional and got our message across clearly. For us the campaign lasted only two weeks, but the learnings that came out of it will allow us to continue finding success next year and beyond.”

Feral Nation

Participant in Generosity Generator training programme, 2023

"Although I have strong experience in online fundraising, I learnt so much with the Generosity Generator. Learning about putting structure into a crowdfunding campaign, getting match funders on board, and not feeling that you’re annoying people by constantly asking them to donate, were my key takeaways. I’m already setting up a crowdfunder for another charity and am looking forward to seeing that flourish with all my new knowledge."

Christchurch Community House

Participant in Generosity Generator training programme, 2023

"The training was a glimpse into the possibilities of raising funds from a previously untested source for our organisation. It provided an opportunity to sit, reflect and plan - very different from the usual funding application process. A real opportunity to consider our 'why' and how we tell that story. Thank you!"

FAQ

  • Who is the Generosity Generator Masterclass for?

The Masterclass is for any charity, school or community group with little/no experience in crowdfunding, limited capacity or funds for credible professional development, or charity leaders and fundraisers who want to refresh their crowdfunding knowledge. The Masterclass offers a refined process for crowdfunding success, and teaches fundamental crowdfunding knowledge. Crowdfunding can be an additional way to generate income for your organisation, especially smaller grassroots charities and groups that are competing for limited funding grants, or experiencing funding cuts.

  • What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is one type of online fundraising, where you collect many small donations from a large number of people, typically online using a crowdfunding platform like Givealittle. It’s a cost-effective and convenient way to raise funds, and a great opportunity to grow your giving community. You can reach a more diverse audience online, and attract new people to your cause who might not otherwise have known about you.

  • Why use online fundraising?

Fundraising has evolved, and where it was once solely reliant on in-person or mailed in donations, there has been a shift towards online giving. Online fundraising is a way for people and organisations to raise money using internet-powered platforms. It allows you to expand your reach and offers opportunities for raising money and awareness. Online fundraising became a key way to raise funds during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, when in-person fundraising events couldn’t be held. The pandemic was the catalyst for creating the original Generosity Generator training programme.

  • What does the Masterclass cost?

It’s free! There are also no hidden costs. You will be required to create a free account to access the course, so you can save your progress. You also will have lifetime access to the course, so you can return anytime to refresh your knowledge.

  • How long does it take to complete the Masterclass?

The Masterclass is a short course and if completed in one sitting, takes approximately 2.5 hours. It is recommended that the course is completed in full before running a crowdfunding campaign, to make the most of the new skills, knowledge and resources. The course has an Intro and 8 modules. Each module has short intro text, a video tutorial, short quiz and optional downloadable resources. All the quiz questions for each module are derived from the video tutorial. In total there is 1.5 hours of video content.

  • Who created the Generosity Generator Masterclass?

The Generosity Generator Masterclass is a legacy project created by a partnership between Givealittle and The Funding Network NZ (TFN NZ). TFN NZ closed in December 2023 after 10 years of growing the crowdfunding capacity of small Kiwi grassroots charities, and surplus funds were put into developing this course. Givealittle was the official event partner of TFN NZ from 2020 - 2023, and they matched the TFN NZ grant for the project. The course ensures that charities (and now schools, community groups and individuals) can continue to build their crowdfunding capacity and capability. Additional funding for the course was also provided by Chorus New Zealand (TFN NZ key partner) and The Funding Network International (of which TFN NZ was an affiliate).

  • Who owns the Generosity Generator Masterclass?

The Generosity Generator Masterclass is hosted and owned by Givealittle, New Zealand’s trusted crowdfunding platform. For enquiries contact [email protected].
